Portland Area Climbers Coalition
Our mission is to make the Portland area a better place to climb through advocacy, stewardship, and education.
Each year, all active members of the Portland Area Climbers Coalition (defined by an active joint membership of PACC & The Access Fund) are invited to vote for representatives of the community to serve on the organization’s Board of Directors. Though there are many other ways to contribute to the work of the organization — volunteering, offering expertise, working at the committee level — PACC relies on the active participation and dedication of a working Board of Directors to fulfill our mission of ensuring sustainable climbing access. Board members commit to a 3-year term and are expected to contribute 4-8 hours per month to advance the organization’s mission. Up to four candidates for the board are elected each year to represent the Portland area climbing community. Learn more in the Board Member Job Description.

Mark Daverin
Current President
I am a strategic leader and dedicated advocate for the climbing community, leveraging over 20 years of professional experience in strategic planning, business modeling, and board leadership to drive organizational resilience. This expertise is uniquely informed by more than 30 years of personal experience in rock climbing, ice climbing, skiing, and mountaineering, providing me with the historical and practical knowledge essential to PACC’s advocacy work.
At PACC, I serve as Board Chair (since December 2023), where I’ve focused on strengthening access, partnerships, and community engagement. Highlights include signing an MOU with the Mt. Hood Forest Service to support stewardship access, reigniting the Friends of Rocky Butte coalition to protect a key local climbing area, deepening collaboration with the Access Fund, and growing PACC’s membership and reach from the ground up. I approach this work with knowledge, experience, and empathy, committed to helping our community protect access and thrive.
I am looking forward to continuing the work I have started at PACC and to setting PACC up for a successful future.

Candidate for the Board
I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, where I fell in love with climbing eight years ago. While I’ll always cherish where I came from, I knew at some point I needed to be closer to the outdoors. This led me to my big move to the PNW last year. Since moving here, I’ve found a deeper connection to the land and the stewardship values that define this region especially from PACC.
PACC’s mission to protect access, promote stewardship, and build community resonates deeply with me. Climbing has shaped my life, and I believe in giving back to the spaces and people that make it possible. Over the years, I’ve supported trail days across the country from Red River Gorge Kentucky to most of the Midwest like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois. In the last year, I’ve even ventured into trail days at Broughton Bluff and Smith Rock. These experiences have shown me the power of collective action and the importance of organized leadership.
It would be an amazing opportunity to join PACC not just as a volunteer, but as someone ready to contribute on a strategic planning level. These reasons are why I am raising my hand to join the board.
Craig Hoffman
Current Treasurer
I began climbing in 1983 and have been climbing in the local area for almost 25 years. Recently, I have made sport climbing trips to Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Laos. We are blessed to have some of the best urban area climbing in the United States and I want to see it stay accessible to the next generation.
It has been 20 years since I was involved with my first of many trail days at Broughton’s and Smith Rock with Access Fund. Access Fund has moved to a model of supporting local climbing organizations, which motivated me to join PACC. At PACC I have been treasurer since December 2023. This involves managing our finances and filing annual reports with the government. We have been fortunate to not have financial considerations be a limiting factor to implementing everything so far. As Treasurer, I look forward to managing our finances as we take on bigger goals.
